Peak performance

Long awaited, the D800 has an amazing 36.3 megapixel FX-format (full-frame) CMOS sensor that enables unprecedented levels of detail and tonal range.

For professionals that require an agile D-SLR camera with imaging potential to rival most medium format cameras, the D800 is an ideal blend of definition and freedom.

Equipped with our next-generation EXPEED 3 image-processing engine, the D800 makes light work of data-rich tasks without sacrificing the speed and quality that pros are accustomed to. 12-channel readout with 14-bit A/D conversion and high signal-to-noise ratio delivers images of remarkable quality with low noise and wide dynamic range.

Broadcast quality video

For pros undertaking work that demands high definition video, the D800 offers large format movie shooting with a comprehensive variety of frame rates. Full HD recording up to 29.59 minutes is possible in both FX and DX formats at 1080p and 720p.

Whether you’re filming weddings or wildlife, high-fidelity audio controls set a new standard ensuring your movies sound as good as they look. Custom controls have been implemented to allow smoother aperture control using assigned buttons, while index marking will help you tag important frames to save time editing.

Responsive and intuitive

The Nikon D800 responds as quickly as you do, with a start-up time of just 0.12 seconds. You can track your work on the precision 8-cm, wide-viewing-angle, LCD monitor that allows images to be magnified up to 46x during playback.

If you enjoy making time-lapse movies you’ll be pleased to know we’ve extended our time-lapse photography function by enabling saved images to be kept as a movie file within the camera. You can choose to play this back using rates from 24 to 36,000 times faster than normal.

Groundbreaking innovation

Implementing a completely re-worked Multi-CAM 3500FX AF system, the autofocus sensor module and algorithms have been re-engineered to significantly improve low light acquisition sensitivity capabilities. This helps you to have AF acquisition based on the latest pro technology from the new flagship Nikon D4, having autofocus available even at a combined aperture of f/8.

As reliable on the road as it is in the studio, the D800 boasts a weather and dust-sealed magnesium alloy body that weighs in at approximately 10% lighter than the D700.

A step further

To ensure our cameras are as individual as your photography, we’re also introducing the Nikon D800E, a special edition of the D800 that incorporates an optical filter with anti-aliasing properties removed to give you even more detail than the already outstanding D800. Are you a photographer who can control light, distance and your subject to the degree where you can mitigate the increased risk of moiré and false colour? If so, this is the camera for you.
